Hulu Now No. 2 Video Site

After only one year on the internet, the video streaming site Hulu has hurtled to the No. 2 spot behind YouTube in the number of video views. Surpassing MySpace and Yahoo! with 308 million videos streamed per month, Hulu is fast becoming a household name. Now all it has to do is find a way to try to catch up to YouTube's 5.2 billion videos streamed per month.
While we're a little nervous (and yet ecstatic) that the internet TV site appears to be carried by Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog, the most viewed and shared video on Hulu, there were some other not as surprising names that led the list as well. Episodes of Family Guy, The Office and Heroes show that Hulu is a popular resource for catching up on or rewatching the most popular TV shows.
The real challenge for Hulu now is to be able to continue growing. While they specialize in content from NBC Universal and News Corp., they have shows from other networks. However, in order to compete with many of the other internet TV sites out there, Hulu will need to expand its catalog with other networks. And Hulu's stats show it has a lot of potential to grow in that area as well, with some of the most searched shows on Hulu being Lost, South Park and Gossip Girl.
The odds of surpassing YouTube's current preeminence in video sharing and viewing are slim, but Hulu is definitely on the right track and will soon become the YouTube equivalent for online TV viewers (if it hasn't already).
